Last Night of the Fair
03:22
|
|||
Last night of the fair, as the Dutchman shouts out across this city
Put your hands in the air and pay your money at the cash box
As people say they wouldn’t like to live this near to here
With all this on their doorstep nine days a year
Like reluctant Craig Davids, only getting to chill on Sunday
Before indulging on brandy snaps and the thrill until it makes them feel ill
Sirens in stereo against the unforgiving beat of the relentless surround sound in the street
Searchlights scoping out the clouds can’t stop the rain from falling down
And as the electronic trumpet takes its moment in the spotlight
Before some oggies and a couple of oi ois
I feel the blow of a new breeze against the noise that makes me feel like maybe we do have a choice
And maybe we’ll take our chance and maybe we’ll walk outside
And maybe we’ll feel the rain fall upon our awestruck faces
And the wind will change, giving us smiles to see us through the rest of our lives
There’s never been a moment quite like this
Nothing to worry about, nothing to plan, nothing to fix
And all the hard work and long hours just melt away as the lights flash behind us and we’ll realise what it’s all about
Why we put in the hard work and long hours and thankless days
And all the little things that now seem so far away are just the things that make us what we are
We’ll live within our means and admit our mistakes and never blame other people
Just be the best we can, but be content to know that we’ll never be perfect
We’ll be kind, even if no-one else knows we’re being kind
No arguments, no excuses, no criticisms
Just a nod of acknowledgement that life isn’t always fair, because it isn’t, but who cares
We’ll make the most of it, we’ll learn from experience and look to the future
And realised that, in perspective, none of it is really that important
The important thing is now, it’s what we are
So take my hand
This is what we are.

I've killed all the bad guys in the world
Found all the treasure and got all the girls
Freed all the people to live in mixed race harmony
Fought all evil, fought the fear and the enemy
Now I stand back and admire all I've done
There's been good times, bad times, heartache and fun
There's a million undistressed damsels thriving in the peaceful metropolis yonder
My work here is complete, I often sit and ponder
What would I do if someone asked me for a piece of advice
For something I've learned from this superheroic life
Well there's one nugget of wisdom some old bloke told me in the early days
Remember this and you'll be OK
Don't believe what you see on TV
Anything that goes your way can go away again
And everyone you meet has a second face
There's two sides to every story and it’s no fun getting up in the morning
And don't believe what you see on TV
Cos superheroes are under paid, without us who'd save the day
How am I supposed to live off the pension fund I've saved
All those early starts and late nights will send me to an early grave
I've no regrets as I pack it in, I'm glad to give my powers away
So as I retire, before I go, I want the whole world to know
Being a Superhero's not all it’s cracked up to be
But the world needs more people like me
So good luck to you I know you'll be at least as good as I have been
So save the world etc but remember if it’s the only thing you learn from me
Don't believe
Don't believe what you see on the TV
Kill all the bad guys in the world
Find all the treasure and get the girl
Free all the people to live in mixed race harmony
Fight all evil, fought the fear and the enemy
And don't believe what you see on TV

An Alien in the Bedroom
03:25
|
|||
There's an alien in the bedroom
A pixelated predator from an eighties video game
If I go back through we're all doomed
Without the answer to the question radiating from his brain
Why'd you fear the unknown
Dwell on things you have or haven't done
You've only got however long
Why not try to make the most before it’s gone?
There's no sense in worrying, we're all going to die
Red or green or in-between, we're all going to die
It's been written in the stars and pasted in the sky
For each and everyone to read since the dawn of time
There's an alien in the bedroom
And he says he's not going to go
Without his help we're all doomed
And there's something we all should know
Don't be afraid of alien messengers, please listen, do not run
And do not fear the unknown, it just what's yet to come
Don't be scared of things you have or haven't done
You've only got however long, why not try to have some fun?
There's no sense in worrying, we're all going to die
Red or green or in-between, we're all going to die
It's been written in the stars and pasted in the sky
For each and everyone to read since the dawn of time
That's right, you're all going to die
You're all going to die
You're all going to die
Ladies and gentlemen, you're all going to die
You don't stand a chance, don't start to cry
There's no point in worrying, there's nothing you can do
Every single one of you is done for, that's true
We're all going to, we're all going to, we're all going to die
You're all going to, you're all going to, you're all going to die
No we're not, it's you that's gonna,
Err, no, what? You are! You're going to die!

Shit Brick House
04:09
|
|||
There are cobwebs and dirt on the window to my soul and the heart of this home has stopped beating
Can’t keep up this façade through these stormiest of times and I can’t survive without ‘eating
Weather-beaten and battered and left to battle the rot, weakened by the onslaught of just being
Used to stand alone now I get lost in the crowd and the wind is blowing right through me
So condemn me for the state I’ve got myself in
I’m built like a shit brick house, cracking up upstairs and feeling damp down below
Set on dodgy foundations, courting degradation, like its proof of a life lived
If you propped me up, could I lean on you? Support my woodworm ravaged bones
And if the sun should rise in the morning then light might shine through these shattered holes
And I’ll no longer feel so detached with so many open doors
I’ll hold on to hope cos it’s good to know I’m a shit brick house, but I’m yours
I’m built like a shit brick house, cracking up upstairs and feeling damp down below
Set on dodgy foundations, courting degradation, like its proof of a life lived
I’m built like a shit brick house

Let's Go
04:04
|
|||
Hey! Stop! What you doing? What it’s him, let’s go
Night fall, angry, disturbed, broken down, wanting more
Waking, window, find, cold, way out, over
Window open, don’t care, window closed. Shouting
Waking, over, can’t sleep. Why should I? No
Well they fight the fight, they’re going out tonight, I better stay inside, shut the window
Just an underclass but they’re built to last, smash another glass and let’s go
Broken, clock, sleep, again, ticking, stop
Can’t do, hours, any, minutes, thing, seconds, sleep
Broken, what’s going on? Family. What’s family? Silence
Another night gone
Well they fight the fight, they’re going out tonight, I better stay inside, shut the window
Just an underclass but they’re built to last, smash another glass and let’s go
What’s this? I don’t… Give me more
Just an underclass but they’re built to last, smash another glass
Just an underclass but they’re built to last, smash another glass and let’s go
I’ll give you one, two, three
Well they fight the fight, they’re going out tonight, I better stay inside, shut the window
Just an underclass but they’re built to last, smash another glass fuelled by alcohol
C’mon, let’s get him, couldn’t do anything anyway. Let’s go.

Fishing in a Bowl
03:55
|
|||
Fishing... in a bowl
Just a matter of time
They’ll take a hold
Sooner or later I’m gonna go
They’re going fishing in a bowl
And no it isn’t fair
Swimming here and swimming there
We all know, it’s just a matter of time
Not long now
They can see me!
No corners to hide
Always on show
Round in circles
I go
Looking fearless, looking forward
Avoid the stare
They’re fishing... in a bowl
Making, breaking reputations in the course of a conversation
Ducking flying allegations, keep your mouth shut, your head down low
Heart Beat
Heart Beating
Out of my chest
Palms sweat
Fingers tingle
No feeling in my frozen feet
Making, breaking reputations in the course of a conversation
Ducking flying allegations, keep your mouth shut, your head down low
Making, breaking reputations in the course of a conversation
Ducking flying allegations, while they’re fishing in your bowl.

Look Before You Leap
03:51
|
|||
Look before you leap, there’s a headstone with your name on
It says don’t you go to sleep until you’ve found your way safely home
Good things are delicate, there’s a balance to be kept
And delicate things are dangerous if you trust in them too much
So don’t lean on me if you need a steady grounding
Can’t move a muscle or the whole thing might fall away now
So I try not to move
I just try to keep my head still
Cos any moment now there’s going to be a total catastrophe
But I’ve got nothing to lose
I could be your ticket to an early escape now
Or hold your hand down the road to a nervous breakdown
So walk the broken line down the middle, never stray
But don’t rely on me, I’m as lost as you, you see
Just trying to hold some ground
I try not to move
I just try to keep my head still
Cos any moment now there’s going to be a total catastrophe
But I’ve got nothing to lose
I’m just biding my time
And biting my tongue
And waiting ‘til the moment’s right to reveal what I’ve done
And when it comes
When it all goes wrong
I’ll be looking on from a distance as it comes undone
Knowing I have won

I’ve been SPURNed to a POINT now I’m in DEEP
I’m as blue as the GINGER is GREEN
I’m WITHOUT A MOUNTAIN to climb
And now I’m downing on a SUNK ISLAND
That’s just WITHERN into the SEA
And I don’t really know what CHANTS I AVE
Of finding NEWLANDs while HOLDERNESS DRAINed sat nav
Then it hit me like a BRICKNELL
I’m fucKINGSTONed UPON the HULL of a boat bound for FREEDOM
With a one way ticket to a SALTy END
And I’ll wave my arms in desperation but you’ll think I’m waving goodbye
And this song is just an alternative tourist guide
Is it worth the HESSLE of swimming FORESHORE
It’ been a BROUGH old time but I’ve been through HULL before
And now I’m starting to wonder
But it’s as clear as the MUD IN THE HUMBER
Still I’m HEDON on to try again once more
And I’ll wave my arms in desperation but you’ll think I’m waving goodbye
And this song is just an alternative tourist guide
They say the grass is greener, well I’m telling you it’s not
I crossed THE BRIDGE and really gave it all I’d got
But it left me feeling like a fool
Still living with the ghosts and GOOLEs
Well I crossed the line I suppose I got what I ought
And I’ll wave my arms in desperation but you’ll think I’m waving goodbye
And this song is just an alternative tourist guide
And now it’s all turned GRIMSBY
And like a uselesSCUNTTHORPE
I’m walking alone through SPITTAL-IN-THE-STREET
Yes I’m walking alone through SPITTAL-IN-THE-STREET
